In my art, I bring forgotten women from history into vivid focus through intimate portraits. What you'll immediately notice is the striking use of vibrant pink pigment applied directly to unstretched cotton. This isn't just a colour choice; the pink, often seen as delicate, becomes a powerful symbol of the strength and resilience these marginalized figures possessed. By applying it straight to the raw cotton, I create a tactile immediacy that bypasses tradition, mirroring the urgency I feel in sharing their overlooked stories. The consistent use of pink across these portraits of "unsung heroes" visually links them, highlighting their shared experience of historical erasure. The unstretched canvas further emphasizes this directness, a deliberate departure from convention that reflects the unconventional nature of the histories I aim to reclaim, giving a vibrant, pink voice to those once silenced.
